You peer over the wall and wish you could join the rest of the world. That small still voice in your head whispers for you to do it. To grip the bricks and jump right over. You imagine your bare feet hitting the soft grass on the other side. You know it’s easier there. Then that large active voice in your head screams at you to stay put. To let go of the bricks and fall back into the void. You see yourself falling alone. You know it’s harder this way. Yet as you stand rigid with uncertainty your mind slowly caves in and your fingers loosen their hold. You step back from that wall and resign yourself to another day lost inside your insecurities. I just want you to know that I side with the first, smaller voice. I want you to get over that wall. I want you happy.
Sometimes you know exactly what you have to do, but can never find the courage to do it. You walk the miles and miles of regrets knowing that even if you had the courage it wouldn’t last. Instead we slice our souls into pieces, relishing the way our minds burn. Only to repeat the process all over again once the last scar has faded. I’ll throw you over that wall if I have to.
